Bath and Bristol Eight Week Mindfulness (MBSR/MBCT) Courses
The Bath and Bristol Mindfulness MBSR/MBCT Courses were started by Philippa Vick in 200. Since then she has been joined by Laurence Milburn, Suzanne Cowderoy and Nigel Wellings who together with her now facilitate the courses. The Bath and Bristol Eight Week Mindfulness Course and other courses particularly emphasise the importance of generosity, kindness, curiosity and humour, knowing that these qualities are of vital importance once we start the journey towards welcoming everything, pleasurable and painful, found within ourselves. Each of the facilitators also bring their own particular qualities drawing on depth psychotherapy and clinical psychology as well as many years involvement with several meditative traditions.
What does the course involve?
The course provides the means to start, continue and deepen being more mindfully present with thoughts, emotions and body sensations. It also supports an attitude of kindness and compassion towards ourselves and others. These two combined can really help us be a healthy human beings and taken further can reveal our deepest potential.
Who is the course for?
All of us! The programme is known to benefit people with a range of physical and a psychological problems but it is not necessary to have a specific health problem to find it helpful. We all have times in our lives when we experience difficulty, stress and struggle and for some of us this is our daily experience. The problem or illness itself cannot always change but the way we relate to and cope with the difficulty may shift, making it all feel easier. Developing greater awareness can open us to be able to change how we approach our experiences by taking more pleasure in the good things and dealing more effectively with difficulty. We can see how our habitual and reflex reactions to events often add layers of difficulty for us on top of the original problem!
The course is therefore potentially open to any of us who are at a point in our lives where we wish to, and are ready, to do something different. People also come to mindfulness courses to gain skills in dealing with particular conditions.
• Heart disease
• Chronic pain
